A volunteer with the credit union is able to make a real and tangible difference to their community.
Although the credit union employs some paid staff, the volunteers are the backbone of the credit union. Volunteers are involved at all levels from tellers and leaflet drops to members of the Board of Directors.
Training is given in the skills we require. We have a regular half days training once a month. We are always looking to find extra training for our volunteers.
All we require of our volunteers is: -
(i) basic numeracy;
(ii) basic literacy;
(iii) basic computer literacy would be helpful, but we will train you and the Credit Union Accounting Software is unique to credit unions;
We ask our volunteers to commit at a minimum 8 hours a month, and to be dependable - volunteers are on a rota and we need prior warning if a person cannot attend.
To become a volunteer you must also become a member of the Credit Union, and then you can apply to become a volunteer, you will be asked for a CV.
If you are looking for work, the credit union will give you valuable work experience in an office, working with the public, and computer skills. Which will look good on your CV. If all goes well the credit union may also furnish you with a reference.
